2:18 And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. When I read this verse, my mind automatically assumes that the next verse will be about the creation of woman. Surprisingly, it isn’t. 19 And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. 20 …..but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. 22 And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman and brought her unto the man. 23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones and flesh of m flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. 24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife, and they shall be one flesh.God could have made Adam’s help meet from the dust as Adam was made of, but instead he took Adam’s own flesh and blood to create woman. I often joke that women are better because we were made from prime rib while men were made from dirt, but in seriousness, God did this for a reason. God made woman from the man. What can I glean from this??? I think that it is an important key to successful marriage. We are to be one flesh, one body moving on one accord. This is ideal, but how do we do it? Man and woman are so different…sometimes we think and act as if we were a different species! But God wants woman or the wife to be one flesh with her husband. It is significant how God creates woman and is the foundation for many other scriptures to follow about the relationship between man and woman in marriage.
