6:6-8 And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 7 And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
After the sons of God (vs 2) had taken up with the daughters of man or of those ungodly, the Bible says that every imagination and desire of man was to sin and sin continually. It got so deplorable that God actually wished that he had never even made us…..man got that far from God! God wanted to wipe out the evil because he is too holy and righteous to be around it and know how evil man had become. But one lone man found favor with the Lord. Noah from Seth’s line walked with God and lived justly and honored righteousness. Noah followed God’s instructions in obedience and I imagine labored many long, hard hours building the ark. God established a covenant with Noah and saved him from destruction…because he walked with God.
The fact that Noah walked with God can tell us much about his character. God could not walk with a man who was corrupt, misleading, unholy, or unjust. Noah must have had a pure heart that honored the Lord for him to find grace with God. God showed mercy on Noah and his family because he had not turned from God’s ways. Noah must have greatly revered God because he believed there would be a huge flood with rain from the sky and undertook the construction of a magnificent ark three stories high and over two football fields long. Noah also had to spend much time gathering food to sustain the animals and his family while the earth was flooded.

Verse 22 says Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he. Noah was a great man of faith. I think God put him in the Bible for us to understand our Biblical history, but also to understand God’s expectations of us; we are to walk with Him in daily fellowship, live justly by heading God’s commandments, keeping faith in His plan, and continuously obey his commands.
